Russian military vehicles destroyed by Ukrainian Howitzer

This aerial footage shows how this Russian armoured personnel carrier has no chance as it is blasted apart by Ukrainian artillery. Several strikes can be seen landing on and around the APC, which appears to be hiding among residential homes and eventually catches fire. Newsflash obtained the footage from the 30th Independent Mechanised Brigade - a formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces - yesterday (Sunday, 1st May). The brigade said the shots came from a 2S1 Gvozdika - a Soviet self-propelled howitzer that has been in service since 1972. The 2S1 Gvozdika is operated by several countries, including both Russia and Ukraine. It is not clear where in Ukraine the strikes took place. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) reported earlier today that Russia had lost around 23,800 troops over the course of the invasion thus far. It has been claimed that Russian President Putin has assumed command of day-to-day operations in Ukraine by handing over the country's administration to the prime minister. It is said that Putin, who wants to achieve victory before May 9, has made 'impossible demands' and has become obsessed with 'paranoid ideas'. An unnamed senior source from the European Union announced that Putin has largely handed over the country's administration to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and is directing all his attention to the daily conflicts in Ukraine. Sources close to the Kremlin, on the other hand, claim that Putin controls conflicts daily and gives instructions. Putin is alleged to have made 'impossible demands' as Russian forces continue to attack the Donbas region. According to a report from the Ukrainian General Staff, Putin asked his troops to take Kryvyi Rih, the birthplace of Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenskiy, as their first job. Boris Karpichkov, a former KGB agent who Decamped from Russia, told The Sun Newspaper that Putin had become 'obsessed with paranoid ideas' and that the Russian president was known among his entourage as someone who was obsessed with details and famous for remembering faces and conversations.

Ukraine update: Heavy losses and evidence of brutality | DW News

Ukrainian troops are trying to hold off Russian attacks in much of Ukraine's east. The Kremlin is seeking to capture the industrial Donbas region, but many observers say that Russian gains are smaller than expected. Ukraine has admitted heavy losses in the east, but says Russian casualties are far higher. Evidence of Russian brutality under Vladimir Putin has shocked western officials - even those with military backgrounds. On March 4th, eight days after Russia invaded Ukraine, Russian forces took control of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. The Russians have kept the Zaporizhzhia plant running – with Ukrainian staff. But there have been reports of Russian troops forcing engineers to work under extreme pressure. There are also concerns that fighting near the plant has caused damage or could cause a nuclear accident. Ukraine says Russia sent eight specialists from its state nuclear company to the plant, where they demanded managers give them confidential data about its operation. The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, has urged international nuclear specialists be granted access to the plant as soon as possible. And Russia has been relentlessly bombarding Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-biggest city, for weeks. Most people there have left, but many remain.
