Paramilitaries in Ukraine - How Ramzan Kadyrov and Chechen mercenaries shape the war | DW News

The leader of the Russian province of Chechnya is calling for the storming of Ukraine's capital Kyiv as part of Russia's so-called 'special military operation.' For years, soldiers from Chechnya have been fighting alongside pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine. Chechen separatists fought two wars against Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union. But Russia violently defeated the separatists. Now, Chechnya is part of the Russian Federation and is ruled by Ramzan Kadyrov - a loyal ally of President Vladimir Putin. Putin has repeatedly called upon Kadyrov's paramilitary fighters to undertake risky missions in Ukraine. But some Chechen separatists have also joined the war - fighting against Russian forces. _ 00:00 The war within one: Pro-Russian Chechnyan paramilitaries 07:21 Skepticism over Russia's withdrawal pledge 07:51 Ukraine proposes neutrality 12:45 Can the withdrawal pledge be trusted? 16:14 Germany's emergency plan for cut-off gas supplies Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/user/deutschewelleenglish?sub_confirmation=1 For more news go to: https://bit.ly/356QarS Follow DW on social media: ►Facebook: https://bit.ly/3N92EjL ►Twitter: https://twitter.com/dwnews ►Instagram: https://bit.ly/3D22s16 Für Videos in deutscher Sprache besuchen Sie: https://www.youtube.com/dwdeutsch #Chechnya #Paramilitary #Ukraine

Putin Hardball Tactic Backfires, Pushes Europe Away From Russian Oil

Rachel Maddow points out that while Vladimir Putin is trying to leverage European dependence on Russian oil and gas, what he's really doing is pushing away the most important customers of his country's only industry and demonstrating his lack of trustworthiness to any nation that might be foolish enough to engage Russia in business.  » Subscribe to MSNBC: https://ift.tt/2yUkqWJ About: MSNBC is the premier destination for in-depth analysis of daily headlines, insightful political commentary and informed perspectives. Russia's Ukraine invasion planned by 'absolute morons'

Amazing scenes in Moscow yesterday show exactly why Russia's invasion of Ukraine looks like it was planned by "absolute morons," says Sky News host Andrew Bolt. "It started when Putin announced his spies had foiled an evil Ukrainian assassination plot against his favourite journalist – a sycophant who night after night calls for Ukraine to be smashed. "The evidence that the Russian spy agency, FSB, claims to have found, turns out to be utterly hilarious."

Four Russian tanks destroyed by a single Ukrainian missile ops

Ukrainian army chiefs are showing off the remarkable destruction of four Russian tanks in as many minutes by a single missile operator. Newsflash obtained footage of the devastation from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) last night (Monday, 25th April). The General Staff of the AFU said: "In four minutes, four tanks were destroyed. "Calculation of Stugna-P. "Izyum direction." Newsflash also obtained a statement from the Joint Forces Operation reading: "In Donetsk and Luhansk directions, Ukrainian defenders continue to defend our land. "During the current day, 25th April, the Joint Forces' troops successfully repelled six enemy attacks. Thanks to their skilful actions and prowess, our soldiers inflicted losses upon the Russian occupiers. "In particular, Ukrainian defenders destroyed four tanks, five artillery systems, 13 armoured vehicles, 15 motor vehicles, two fuel tankers and one anti-aircraft gun. "Air defence units shot down two planes and three Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicles in the sky of Ukrainian Donbas. "Ukrainian soldiers continue to bravely and heroically restrain the aggressor's invasion! "Together to victory!" The Stugna-P is a Ukrainian anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) system developed by the Luch Design Bureau, which is headquartered in Kyiv. It was famously used earlier this month, on 5th April, to down a Russian Kamov Ka-52 attack helicopter. Izium is a city and district in the Kharkiv region in eastern Ukraine. The city of Izium is currently under Russian occupation. From 2014 until 2018, the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) was called the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO). The ATO was a military counter-offensive launched by Ukraine against pro-Russian forces in April 2014. The footage of the multiple strikes comes as UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is set to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow later today. The meeting will take place amid the warning by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov of the "real" threat of World War Three breaking out. Lavrov also said there was a "considerable" risk of the conflict escalating to nuclear weapons, but Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba responded that his Russian counterpart was just trying to "scare the world off supporting Ukraine". Russia earlier claimed responsibility for the destruction of six substations powering Ukrainian railways, which the Kremlin said were used to transport foreign weapons.
